Daniel Bluestein MD, a Family Physician and Geriatrician, is the Charles F. Burroughs Professor of Family & Community Medicine, Eastern Virginia Medical School. He holds a joint appointment in the EVMS Department of Internal Medicine.

As director of the Department of Family Medicine's geriatrics division, Dr Bluestein is responsible for interprofessional training and program development in primary care geriatrics. In this regard, he directs EPIC-GP (Excellence in Primary Integrated Care-Geriatric Patients), a project funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration as part of a statewide Virginia Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program. Dr. Bluestein’s Practice Change Leaders project builds on EPIC-GP.

Dan arrived at EVMS in 1981, having graduated from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, (1975) completed a residency in Family Medicine at the University of Maryland (1978), and a Robert Wood Johnson faculty development fellowship (University of Iowa, 1981), earning a Master of Science in Preventive Medicine in the course of this training. He has previously served as his department’s research director, as medical director of a large continuing care retirement community, and as faculty for the American Medical Directors Association core curriculum course for medical direction in long term care.
