Heather Sakely, PharmD, BCPS, is the Director of Geriatric Pharmacotherapy and Director of the PGY2 Geriatric Pharmacy residency program at UPMC St. Margaret. She received her doctor of pharmacy degree from the Duquesne University Mylan School of Pharmacy, completed a specialty pharmacy residency in Family Medicine and participated in the Faculty Development Fellowship at UPMC St. Margaret, and is board-certified in pharmacotherapy.
Dr. Sakely is a clinician educator, holding faculty positions within the UPMC St. Margaret Family Medicine Residency Program, Geriatric Medicine Fellowship, and Pharmacy Residencies as well as an Adjunct Instructor, University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. She provides care to older adults across the health care continuum in outpatient and senior living communities. She belongs to national pharmacy and geriatric organizations, sits on the Board of Directors for the Pennsylvania Geriatrics Society â€” Western Division, and is a contributing editor for the Allegheny County Medical Society Bulletin. She is the co-course director for the regional Refresher Course in Family Medicine and sits on the planning committee for the regional Clinical Update in Geriatric Medicine conference. She leads the PIVOTS (Pharmacist-led Interventions on Transitions of Seniors) research group focused on evaluation of the role of the pharmacist within interprofessional geriatric health care settings. She has joined with institutional leaders to promote pharmacist practice development and is passionate about demonstrating the impact of pharmacist provision of direct patient care to older adults within interprofessional team based care.
